Recently, Wikimedia Commons (a cousin site of Wikipedia) received as a donation from the German Federal Archives a batch of 100,000 photos free of charge and reusable. After the availability (but here only for consultation, not free pictures) of the photo collection of LIFE by Google ((like this one, for example), and while waiting for more german pictures are coming to Wikimedia, a photographic treasure is now within reach of the casual Internet user. It is also an invaluable source for people who want the right to remix (and edit for photos): you can have them appear in montages and compositions.

I stress the importance of reusability: this is what allows me to bring you directly to my site this pretty picture, which represents a view (of 1962) on a street in Berlin (East, at the time) which was filled by numerous volunteers from bricks to be cleaned and repaved. This photograph is licensed under the CC-BY - SA license.
